The Anatomical Make-up of Building 6-Packs

The Build Up Of A Six Pack
In order to successfully build a 6-pack you should understand a little about the anatomical make-up of the abdominal muscles.  Understanding the muscles and how they work to produce the 6-pack will help you to better design and implement an exercise routine that will build up your six-pack area.
There are four main muscles in the abdominal area.  These muscles are important because they help to hold the internal organs in their correct position and aid other muscle groups, like the back.  Everyone has these muscles and everyone has the potential to get a six-pack.
The four main muscle groups are the transversus abdominus, rectus abdominus, external oblique and  internal oblique.  The transversus abdominus is responsible for support of the trunk area and maintaining internal pressure.  These muscles are the deepest, foundation layer of the abdominal muscles.  The rectus abdominus muscles are where the six-pack are loacted.  This group of muscles is across the abdomen and runs from the ribs down to the pelvis.  It is the tiny muscle bands that produce the 6-pack look.  These muscles are responsible for allowing movement between the ribs and pelvis.  The external oblique muscles are on the sides  of the abdomen and they allow for twisting movement in the waist.  The internal oblique muscles are on the inside by the hip bones.  They also assist in twisting and torso movement.  The four muscle groups work together to allow a person to move freely.
Work all the muscle groups for great six pack
When you are building 6-packs you must work all the muscles since they all work together.  Just working the rectus abdominus will not be healthy and may cause an undesired look.  It is important to work each muscle group so they can all become strong and continue to easily work together for optimal health.  When building 6-packs you are not just pumping up some muscles to look good.  You are also making your body stronger and helping to add protection to your internal organs and more stability to your back muscles, as well.  Building 6-packs is not solely a physical goal and it is important to keep this in mind.
