Barbell Lunge
Instead of holding two dumbbells at arms’ length by your sides, rest a barbell across your shoulders. Compared to barbell lunges, dumbbell lunges make it easier to maintain balance.

Additional variations
Walking lunge: Instead of returning to the same start position, do a lunge walk. Periormlunges, oneleg after another, so that you walk the length of the gym floor (or a parking lot or field).
Smith machine lunge: This is similar to the barbell lunge, but the machine provides stability and balance.
